Frogg.in India’s environment resource center

I wanted to introduce you to Frogg (www.frogg.in), which is an
environment resource centre that offers many ideas and resources to
Indians who want to pursue a cleaner and greener way of life and work.
It’s also a place where you can discuss, learn, and contribute on
environmental topics.

First is to spread awareness about Global Warming. You can make a
powerful statement by switching off your lights for just 1 hour during
the Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28, at 8:30 PM (www.earthhour.in).

This is a huge global movement that you can join. We also hope that
you can inspire and organise the community around to celebrate with
you. Frogg has a lot of resources that you can use to get these
celebrations of the ground, like email content, ready made posters,
and fun stuff for kids.

Holi is just round the corner and if you are looking for a greener way
to celebrate (though not necessarily cleaner :-) by using natural
colours check out the Frogg feature on Greening Your Holi. (BTW, many
holi colours are carcinogenic)

Academia.edu – The Linkedin for Academics

A team of people from Stanford and Cambridge have recently launched a website, Academia.edu, which is being billed as a "LinkedIn for academics".

4 months after launching, there are now over 30,000 academics on Academia.edu. It has 67% of 2008′s Nobel Laureates on it, and many of the world’s most well-known academics:

- Richard Dawkins – http://oxford.academia.edu/RichardDawkins

- Stephen Hawking – http://cambridge.academia.edu/StephenHawking

- Noam Chomsky – http://mit.academia.edu/NoamChomsky

- Steven Pinker – http://harvard.academia.edu/StevenPinker

- Paul Krugman – http://princeton.academia.edu/PaulKrugman

Academia.edu does two things:

- It shows every academic around the world in a tree diagram, displayed according to their departmental and university affiliations.

- It enables academics to find out the latest research in their area – the latest people, papers and talks.

The goal is for Academia.edu to eventually list every academic in the world — Faculty Members, Post-Docs, Graduate Students.

Blogger Following and Google Friend Connect feature

Well, I expected these two almost similar services to be rationalised by Google – I think we’re seeing the first signs of such an approach according to this email that the folks at Blogger sent across:

Hi Blogger & Friend Connect User:

As a result of a recent integration between Blogger Following and Google Friend Connect, your Blogger privacy settings have been changed. It is important you read this message to understand how the change impacts the sites you follow, your visibility online when using Friend Connect, and what your options are moving forward.

You are receiving this e-mail because you’ve used both Blogger’s Following feature and Google Friend Connect. So that sites you’ve joined via Friend Connect do not automatically show up on your Blogger profile without your explicit approval, we have changed your following status to "private" on all Blogger blogs. If you would like to have these sites shared publicly on your Blogger profile, here are some instructions for becoming a public follower again.

The post at Blogger Buzz goes into more detail about this change. If you have any questions about this change or how to follow the instructions above, please visit this article in our Help Center.

Ning update

New update from Ning.comhttp://blog.ning.com/2009/03/the-new-ningcom.html
With the new Ning.com, when new people sign up for the Ning Platform via
www.ning.com, they will see a list of recommended social networks. These
recommended social networks will be identified by their momentum and
popularity.
This means that if you have a fast growing social network on Ning and want
to add new members, this may help drive new members to you.

I would love to see how the Ning algorithm judges relevance for people who might find it useful :-)

Also would be keeping an eye out for any spurt of memberships on HR Professionals’ network that I manage on Ning.
