Pay Gap in India widens

Simran Oberoi mailed this to a HR group.

The pay difference
between India ’s
managers and clerical staff continues to widen from 8.7% (2006) to 9.1% (2007),
according to a worldwide study released by global management consultancy Hay
Group.

The finding comes from a new report based on Hay Group’s global
compensation and benefits database, PayNet.
The Global Pay Gaps Report
analysed PayNet’s data on over 12 million employees to determine the difference
between the average pay of management level employees and clerical level
employees across 61 countries, and how that gap had changed from 2006 to
2007. Countries were then ranked in
order of greatest to smallest pay gap.

“As India ’s
economy continues to grow at a blistering pace, we need more top managers to
direct and drive businesses forward. Due to the global shortage of such
internationally mobile talent, we have to pay globally competitive prices to
attract them, thus widening the pay gap between the manager and his clerical
staff,” says Simran Oberoi, Consultant, Hay Group India .

New Online Marketplace – Recruiters and Organizations

Another one and this seems focused on the US market.

Dayak, the online recruiting marketplace that links
employers with professional recruiters, recently launched
its full-service innovative Web site to quickly and efficiently
fill employer job openings.

Although it seems odd to launch a new recruiting resource
in a time of increased unemployment, Dayak CEO Allan
Sabol says that now is exactly the time that corporate
America needs a resource like Dayak.
“The perfect time to slash corporate recruiting costs
is in a time of economic slow-down,” says Sabol.
“Dayak allows employers to fill jobs faster than ever
before without having to pay 20-30% fees.”

According to a study conducted by the Association of
Executive Search Consultants, the last two quarters
of 2007 saw a downturn in the U.S. economy, however, year-end net revenues for the global executive search industry
rose 22 percent from Q4 2006 to Q4 2007.
Additionally, according to the Bureau Labor of Statistics
in the month of June 2008, employment continued to fall in industries such as
construction and manufacturing, but strong job growth
continued in other industries such as health care,
oil and gas, and mining.

Batman’s gear

Have you heard about Batman’s utility belt? When I read about it as a kid I was fascinated and wondered how so much could fit into so little (now I wonder the same when a thousand bucks buys me nearly nothing in the shops – but that’s another story)

So I was fascinated to read this article that grades Batman’s gear – from the Batmobile to the Batarangs.

So if you are a Bat-freak like me you’ll love it :-)

P.S. Added later: Check out this encyclopedia of all of Batman’s Equipment archived!
