Some blog feedback

Yasmin left a comment asking me to tell her how to create an “effective blog”.

Here’s her blog.

Notice that there is no compelling data or reason given why the blogger would be the person who can give advice to people to create a fashion statement. Even the user profile page has little on it.

Now to the content itself – it is like a two advertisements, the two posts. They don’t have much personalisation and expect people to find the blog, without linking to other posts/blogs/websites.

So my suggestion would be to showcase her expertise, create more conversations, have a blogroll and let go of the visual heavy lower part of the blog.

Dealing with PR

I like PR people – either third party or employed by organizations themselves when they give me leads to new ‘actual’ stories – not just some marketing corporatese brochure-speak :-)

Darren on Problogger has an interesting post on how to use PR people to build traffic to your blog. Good idea specifically for small bloggers:

Take your small package — your blog — and team up with other small packages — other bloggers who share your interests and subject matter — and approach the company as team.

Now you are not one small blog with a small group of visitors. You are one large team with a large group of visitors. And this works because, with marketers, the key is always to convince them that there is something in it for them. In this case, the something is a big group of visitors.

Blog Networks on Facebook

Facebook has a really cool blog related app called Blog Networks. If you’ve added it to your FB apps I hope you can confirm that I’m the author by clicking on this blog’s page here.

My management and HR Consulting blog thankfully is in a much better shape and its page on the FB Blog Networks’ app is here. You can join the community of readers as well as add stuff on the wall! The blog also has a big community on MyBlogLog.

These two tools are great for new bloggers who are starting out, to create a community of readers and to put faces to names :-)
