Clicky does a payPerpost to blog about it

This post on the Clicky blog sounds suspiciously like some folks would do via PayPerPost. Note the caveat “Tell people you love Clicky” !

We’re giving away $5,000 in cash and Pro accounts, and offering a 50% affiliate commission rate for the entire month of July! All you have to do is talk about Clicky on your blog or web site. Easy enough?

50% affiliate commission

Tell people you love Clicky and give them your link! Anyone who creates an account through your affiliate link in the month of July, if they ever sign up for paid service you will receive a 50% commission on their first payment, no matter when that actually is (tomorrow, or next year). This is up to a $50 commission!
It’s important to note that this only applies to accounts that are actually registered in July. Accounts registered previously but upgrading in July don’t count! We want you actively marketing Clicky NOW, and not just relying on any previous efforts.

Bad way to ‘build’ a positive buzz, Clicky!

The unsolved mystery

So who was the mystery mailer who ensured that the ‘weight’ of Google homepage did not exceed 28 words?

We don’t know.

I personally think the whole email bit is a marketing story that Google’s posting to build up buzz. We all know that stories are great in making myths come alive. What a better way to make the concept of a light home page a reality than to float a story like that.

Or maybe it was some employee internally in Google. How many people in 2000 knew who Marissa Mayer was, anyway?

Linkedin’s Learning Center

Just noticed this interesting page on Linkedin. Seems like they have packaged all the common FAQs into a “Learning Center” for users to go through and learn.

I guess the need was felt because a lot of people start a Linkedin profile due to a mail they receive from a contact, they really don’t know how to make it count and what to do with it. And they don’t know how to turn for help. This page should help them to keep using LI better.

On related development, I noticed today that Indian LI wannabe, Brijj has started web profiles too. Here is mine. What is different with Brijj is that your web profile can be customised with your favorite colors and fonts.

The drawback? No fields for providing URLs of  websites/blogs. No Google Juice from Brijj’s PageRank to flow to my sites.

Groan!
