blogspot, typepad and geocities banned in india
More here
I can’t access blogspot, typepad and geocities from my airtel connections at home.
Update: Commentator Rajiv says that it’s probably because terrorist group SIMI was using blogs to communicate. As he says…the approach is quite illogical.
I’m sure that if the government co-opts bloggers such blogs could be sniffed out quite easily with our desi-bloggers. Some of them are quite amazing cyber-sleuths. But with this clumsy ban, the government will have to spend energy trying to bluff the Indian blogosphere which could be better utilized going after the real culprits.
Update 2:
A replay of 2003?…that was when the Govt of India (GOI) banned “yahoogroups” 3 years ago. What they had asked the ISPs then was to block one yahoogroup “kynhun”, but since you can’t block one single yahoogroup, the ISPs blocked all the yahoogroups !
From the Financial Express article Blogs, websites go blank:
ISPs are believed to have been asked to block sites like bloodspot.com, hinduhumanrights.org, hinduuni-ty.org and clickatell.com, besides frontline blogs like the Google-owned

Sorry for the wrong link above but since this has to do with the after effects of the bomb blasts, you may want to have a look at this:-
Stray thoughts
God knows what the justification is to curb the freedom of the individual like this. Supposing a politician had a veted interest tommorow and resorts to this can it be allowed? One hopes the govt gives a plausable expplanation.
Lets stop …
lets stop travelling altogether because there are terrorists in all forms of transport…
lets stop publishing newspapers altogether as these chaps could be planting codes to send messages through the papers.
lets stop making movies as there has been news of direct involvement of the people in the business.
lets stop using mobiles and telephones altogether as these chaps use the nework to contact their counterparts.
lets tell the all businesses to pack their bags and get out alltogether as some of these people fund them.
lets stop talking as that would be the medium to communicate…
the air we breath, the sounds we hear, what we touch or feel, the emotions in our heart lets stop doing anything at all. as that will definitely stop terrorists from striking us.
and most of all, lets stop giving corrupt, crass and ruthlessly selfish people a life to run the country to their personal desintations…
lets just do one thing, and one thing alone. lets kill them all and give ourselves a new life!
jai hind!
i feel so cut off suddenly. i can log on via blogger and even post, but i cant see my new posts. i can access blogspot by logging on thru http://www.proxify.com. but cannot post. strange. and of course yahoo is down too…damn !!!
Scary move.
Hi, thanks for sharing the information on Linkedin communities. It’s surprising, and I still can’t believe that India would do such. Where’s the technology going in India? I’ll be missing voices of Indians on blogsphere.
We can access all our blogspot blogs…
have patience
Hi
It seems SIMI was using blogger to communicate with each other and leaving messages for others to pick up.
Using this logic we should stop travelling by trains !!
Are you serious!??! No wonder I cannot access my friend’s blogspot blogs… I have MTNL.
But… how is it that from my work I can visit their blogs? Is it that this ban only applies on government gateways, not on private ISPs?
